Vintage Photos From Kirsten’s Outdoor Portrait Session
One of the outfits Kirsten brought for outdoor portrait session was this sort of period looking dress and hat. When she first changed into that outfit, Kirsten made the comment that she really liked the look of the Great Gatsby era. (She also mentioned they were making a new movie based on the book that will be starring Leonardo DiCaprio.)
The location, her outfit and even something about her hair inspired us to do some poses and settings that might work well with some kind of a vintage or antiqued treatment. A tip of the hat to that era.
The results are here, but first a couple of modern day Kirsten!
I picked some of my favorites and tried different treatments in Photoshop. Some definitely have an antique look to them (closer to Great Gatsby era) and some are a little more retro.
Here’s a normal portrait on the left and a vintage on the right. You can do something like this by lowering the contrast in the photo, turning it into a black & white image, tinting it with a brown or sepia type color and then fading the edges.
Here’s some more. The common elements for all of these is a monotone photo (like black and white or brown) and either a light or dark treatment to the edges to give it a feeling of having aged by sitting around in a fame or box for a long time.
Here’s the last photo, starting with what would be my normal portrait finish and then some different treatments with both an old and a sort of retro feel.
Love the colors in this one. It has more of a retro kind of feel to it. Kirsten has such a great look. Her smile is so perfect and her glancing off to the side really makes this work.
The best for last! OK, I love all of these but this one is my favorite. It makes me think of a warm sunny day, oranges, California and a slight ocean breeze. Like something I might see on a poster or a billboard at Disney’s California Adventure. That’s it! I’m going to Disneyland!
